$4 Million Fantasy Baseball World Championship at FanDuel
August is a busy month for Fantasy Baseball. The middle of August sees DraftKings host their own version of the World Championship and exactly a week later, the FanDuel World Champion will be crowned (unification contest promoted by Don King anyone?)
The FanDuel contest takes place on the 22nd August 2015 and will see the winner walk away as a fantasy sports millionaire. Unlike many daily fantasy sports contests, you’ll not be able to buy in directly, as the only way you’ll make it to the final competition is to win one of the ninety spots via qualifier.
Qualification for the Finals
Qualifiers will take place on al almost daily basis in the weeks and months leading up to the finals. These qualifiers will have a variety of different buy-ins and the majority of them will offer just one place at the final tournament. However, some of the qualifying tournaments will be ‘Super-Qualifiers’ where two or more participants will take a seat at the final tournament.
Should two players tie in qualifying there will be a one day playoff contest to determine the winner. A player will be allowed to qualify up to four times, but after this they won’t be eligible to enter any further qualifiers.
Should you miss out on gaining a seat at the finals, you might well be on the receiving end of a nice cash prize. There are $4 million in prizes available for all of the finalists, however there are also prizes to the tune of $2 million set aside for those that miss out on the main event, so if you don’t qualify it might not all be bad news!
As well as the qualifiers, you’ll also find satellite events for the qualifiers themselves. These will also come with a range of entry fees and differing numbers of seats on offer and will offers players a much cheaper way of attempting to take their place in the finals.
The Main Event
The Fantasy Baseball World Championship takes place in Las Vegas at the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Qualifiers will be given an airfare credit of $1,000 to make the trip to and from Las Vegas and will arrive on the 20th August and stay for three nights before heading back on the 23rd August. The Thursday evening will see the ‘Welcome Mixer’ event for which each qualifier will receive two tickets for, and then a surprise event is planned for the following day. The Championship Viewing party takes place on the Saturday.
The Prize Fund
Every competitor in the main event is guaranteed a prize of at least $10,000 and this will rise to $40,000 for players finishing just outside the top ten. However the really big money is reserved for those who make the elite ten – here is a rundown of these prizes:
1st $1,000,000
2nd $500,000
3rd $250,000
4th $200,000
5th $150,000

Baseball on the Finals Day
It will be an early start to the day, as the Cleveland Indians travel to New York to face the Yankees at 10.05am local time. This will be the first of 15 games that day, with another two starting just 3 hours later. It’s at 4.05pm that the games start to come thick and fast with the final 12 games starting within the next two hours and five minutes. Without any games featuring an extended number of innings, the winner of the 2015 World Fantasy Baseball Championship will be crowned at some time around 10pm local time when the last of the three final games in Oakland, Seattle or Los Angeles come to an end.
FanDuel Fantasy Baseball World Championship Rules
During all of the qualifiers and the final contest, the standard FanDuel Daily Fantasy Sports Baseball rules will be used. All US and Canadian citizens who comply with the FanDuel eligibility rules will be allowed to enter the contest, apart from residents of Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana and Washington.
