Become a Hockey World Champion at FanDuel
$50,000 to be won playing Daily Fantasy Sports Hockey
FanDuel have launched the World Fantasy Hockey Championship, a contest which has a total prize pool of $200,000 and sees the 12 finalists travel to Las Vegas and battle it out to claim the first prize of $50,000. The Championship is one where players can only enter through one of the qualifiers, meaning there is no direct buy-in to the Vegas final. FanDuel have featured live finals for other sports such as baseball and football, however this represents the first time that they have a live hockey grand final.
Qualification for the Main Event
The qualifying events will generally take place on a Tuesday with these taking place weekly from now until the beginning of March. These tournaments will have a number of different buy-ins, the smaller buy-in events featuring a greater number of players you will need to beat to qualify. Planned qualifiers currently include buy-ins for $2, $5, $10, $25 and $100 – the first of these takes place on the 27th January, this being a $2 entry where a maximum of 11,254 players will compete for one of the coveted spots in the main event. Each qualifier will also feature a number of other cash prizes – for example, the $2 qualifier will see the runner up earn $500 and all players in the top 820 will also win cash.
Having already qualified once, it is possible to take a second slot at the finals, although with 2 seats already, any further participation in the qualifiers will not be allowed.
The Main Event
The Live Final will take place on the 14th March 2015. All 12 finalists will receive a trip package with an overall value of $3,000. This consists of airfare credits of $700 which will cover the cost of traveling to and from Las Vegas and a chauffeur to drive you from the airport directly to the hotel – where you’ll enjoy a two night stay (13th and 14th March). All the finalists will also enjoy entry for two at both the Friday evening reception and the Saturday Championship viewing party.
The final will take place using the standard NHL scoring rules offered by FanDuel and will be contested over all of the NHL games being played on the 14th March. The opening games of the day start in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, which will begin at 10am local time. There is action throughout the day, with the final two games starting at 7pm, with games in Colorado and Los Angeles, meaning that one of the twelve finalists will be sipping champagne at around 9.30pm that night.
The Prize Fund
All twelve players who make it to the final will pick up a prize with each player winning at least $2,500. Here is the full run down of the prizes:
1st place: $50,000
2nd place: $25,000
