FanDuel have announced the 2015 Playboy Fantasy Baseball Championship where one lucky player will walk away with the first prize of $100,000. The event is for the seventy finalists who make it through the qualifying process and every competitor who makes the finals is guaranteed a cash prize. The live final takes place on June 6th and there is a total prize pool of $1 million
The Championship continues the fine tradition of FanDuel hosting a number of their premier events at the Playboy mansion in Los Angeles. The home of Hugh Hefner, near Beverley Hills, is now the site of many corporate events and the grounds of the mansion are made for events exactly like this event.
Qualification For Playboy MLB Championship
Unlike many big money daily fantasy sports events, you won’t be able to buy in directly to this Championship, although I’m sure there would be many willing to do exactly that. To grab a place at the ‘party’ you’ll need to win a place in one of the satellite events. These qualifiers will start on Opening day and run all the way until the end of May, when the final spots will be decided. These qualifiers will have differing entry fees and some will award more packages than others. FanDuel will release the details of upcoming qualifying events here:
The Prize Package
Every player who qualifies will be awarded a package worth $3,200. $700 will go towards airfare credits, so you’ll be able to make the round trip to Los Angeles. Having arrived at the airport you will be driven by chauffeur from the airport to the hotel, where you’ll spend two nights.
On the day of arrival you’ll have an entry for two to the Friday evening reception and the following day the Championship viewing party takes place, where once again you can take a guest. The viewing party takes place in the ground s of the Playboy mansion, where top of the range audio and visual equipment will enable all finalists to keep up with the latest happenings at those all-important baseball parks around North America.
A variety of activities will also take place during the day, including loud music and volleyball, while the Playboy ladies wander the grounds, keeping players entertained throughout the day.
Finalists are permitted to actually qualify for the event a maximum of 3 times. Having qualified more than once you’ll have the option of transferring the package to a third party, who will be required to attend the championship. Multiple qualifiers will also have the option of taking the cash value of the package ($3,200).
The Prize Fund
Even should you finish last, you’ll still walk away with a cool $5,000 but all seventy players will have their eyes on a much bigger prize – the $100,000. Here is a rundown of the top ten prizes:
1st $100,000
2nd $60,000
3rd $40,000
4th $50,000
5th $25,000
6th-7th $20,000
8th– 10th $15,000
Finals Day
There are 15 MLB games taking place on the 6th June. The day starts early, with the Nationals hosting the Cubs at 9.05am local time. The games come thick and fast all day and there will be barely time to take stock, as when one set of games finish, another set start. The final three games of the day start at 7.10 pm local time, when the Diamonds host the Mets, the Mariners host the Rays and in LA, the Dodgers play the Cardinals. At some time around 10pm, the Playboy fantasy Baseball Champion will be crowned.
Scoring
The standard FanDuel fantasy baseball scoring system will be used both throughout the qualifying competitions and the final day itself. Should two or more players tie for first place in a qualifier, a place in the finals won’t be awarded and the two (or more) competitors tied will share the cash value of the first place finish. The same sharing of prizes will take place in the finals themselves, with any tied position sharing the cash value of the two (or more) respective prizes.
